SaaS (Software as a Service) can be considered to be one of the oldest and most mature types of cloud computing. With software hosted on centralised network servers to deliver functionality over the web or intranet, SaaS is also known as “software on demand” and is - currently - the most popular type of cloud computing thanks to its high flexibility, great services, enhanced scalability and reduced maintenance requirements.
As demonstrated by the graph on the right, “traditional” forms of SaaS deployment continue to dominate the European picture. E-mail hosting and collaboration both remain high on the cloud priority list for most.
