Cloud adoption priorities and barriers

Knowing what motivates or hinders an enterprise move to the cloud was a key focus of the research and provides a useful benchmarking point for any business. Move the slider Opposite to see the key priorities and barriers to cloud adoption for European businesses making the transition to cloud computing today.

Asked to prioritise a range of factors related to the move to cloud based services, ease of transition, quality assurance, cost saving pressures and security and data control all came through strongly. Ease of transition in particular, now rated as the top priority for most, has moved up from third place in our corresponding 2010 survey.

Of course, barriers still remain. Security remains a perennial priority, despite having dropped slightly in significance from last year. Perhaps more interestingly, geographical location and contract lock-in also present barriers for many, suggesting a growing level of concern over the ‘physical’ and commercial elements of their cloud decisions that stretch beyond technology issues.

While the chart to the right provides a succinct view of the overall picture, country-by-country priorities and barriers can be found in the full report
