Colt sweeps Telecoms Innovation Awards

Colt’s innovation in SDN has been recognised across two categories at the 2017 Telecoms Innovation Summit & Awards. Colt’s partnership with Versa Networks to develop a SD WAN service was awarded best ‘Enterprise Service Innovation’, while the ‘Infrastructure Innovation’ award recognised Colt’s work to speed up global SDN adoption through an inter-operability trial with AT&T.

Run by industry publisher Global Telecoms Business, the awards showcase and celebrate the most innovative and successful telco projects from across the globe that are driving todays telecommunications marketplace.

Colt and Versa’s development of a hybrid SD WAN service was recognised for dramatically simplifying the approach to deploying and managing remote branch office connectivity by leveraging the stability, resilience and QoS of private MPLS based IPVPN connectivity with the flexibility and affordability of public internet transport. It also addresses the industry challenge of bandwidth needs growing at 20-30% per annum, while enterprises’ network budgets remain flat or in decline.

Colt and AT&T’s “SDN Interoperability Proof of Concept” project proves that businesses with multiple networks across continents could benefit from on-demand, flexible, scalable network services and take advantage of new technologies through more open, standardised and software-centric networking. Colt and AT&T are now working together to drive further collaboration and standardisation with industry bodies such as TM Forum and MEF.

“Innovation is central to our SDN and NFV initiatives at Colt, and it is a great honour to be recognised for this. Our industry leading SDN interoperability proof of concept with AT&T, and first to market SD WAN offering based on the Versa platform are the first steps in giving customers full control of hyper-elastic networks, spanning multiple providers, to help them control costs and meet the daily demands of their business” Fahim Sabir, Director of Architecture and Development for Colt On Demand services.

The Awards Ceremony was preceded by the Summit, where attendees discussed how telecom companies have managed to deliver successful projects, overcome the various challenges and obstacles in a projects lifecycle and demonstrate true industry innovation.

At the Summit, Peter Agnew, Senior Innovation Manager at Colt, presented a project showcase of Colt SD WAN alongside Versa Networks. Javier Lecanda, Colt’s On Demand Product Owner, was also a panelist on the Innovation session, where industry leaders discussed how to create a culture of innovation within the telco industry.

The award follows Colt’s recent win at Light Reading’s Leading Lights Award, where its SD WAN deployment strategy was recognised as most innovative in the industry.
