61st Berlin International Film Festival ensures top-quality video connectivity with Colt

Colt, Europe’s leading information delivery platform, today announced it has been selected by the Berlin International Film Festival (also known as the Berlinale) to be its strategic technology partner for media solutions.

Colt will connect multiple Berlinale venues with high speed and secure connectivity, ensuring that a large number of film fans will have the opportunity to experience the media spectacle first hand. Colt will once again broadcast the opening gala taking place on 10 February 2011 at the Berlinale Palast to Cinemaxx and the Friedrichstadtpalast. The films will be streamed via fibre optic cable directly to various Berlinale venues, helping to simplify logistics and increase reliability.

According to Dieter Kosslick, Director of the Berlin International Film Festival: “We have seen the quality of Colt’s work over the last year and we know that for Colt, meeting customer requirements is always much more important than purely technological factors. This philosophy corresponds perfectly to the service mentality of Berlinale. With the expertise of Colt at our disposal, we are confident that we will impress film fans in Berlin."

From 10 to 20 February 2011, Berlin will be the capital of international film culture for the 61st staging of this exceptional festival. With over 15 individual projects, Colt will apply its IT and communications infrastructure and expertise to the world of cinema. Furthermore, Colt will connect both Berlinale Talent Campus venues (HAU 1 and HAU 2) to the Berlinale central computer network. The Film Festival’s talent pool offers 350 up-and-coming stars from all over the world the opportunity to exchange ideas and work with experienced professionals for a week.

Pat Patterson, Segment Marketing Manager at Colt, said: "The various Berlinale venues must be seamlessly connected to ensure the success of the event; video streams throughout Berlin are also an important advert for the film festival. The fact that the Berlinale has chosen us as a partner for several years demonstrates quality and reliability of our information delivery platform.”
