The Uptime Institute awards Colt with Management & Operations (M&O) Stamp of Approval for data centre operations

Colt, Europe’s leading information delivery platform, has been awarded the Uptime Institute’s Management & Operations (M&O) Stamp of Approval for its London 3 site. Colt is the first data centre operator in Europe to be accredited, demonstrating its leadership in the industry.

Julian Kudritzki, Vice President at the Uptime Institute commented, "Colt’s M&O approved London 3 site management not only deserves congratulations, but reinforces Colt’s commitment to excellence in operations."

The Institute’s M&O Stamp of Approval validates that Colt’s facility satisfies industry-recognised criteria. This criteria is deemed essential to achieve full uptime potential, obtain maximum leverage of the installed infrastructure and design, improve the efficiency of operations and realise opportunities for energy efficiency.

Guy Ruddock, VP Operations at Colt said, “This is a milestone, not only for Colt but for the industry as a whole. This standard is industry-led and directly links staffing, maintenance and operations to uptime and through it we have proved our people and processes are world class.”

Colt underwent an intensive audit which scrutinised every aspect of how it manages and operates its data centre site. The audit took into consideration everything from the processes for servicing equipment and investment in training through to the effectiveness of its communications to staff and subcontractors.

“Human error is one of the biggest causes of data centre downtime, costing companies thousands of Euros. More and more customers are now looking to certification as an assurance that their data centre is effective and reliable in the long term.” Ruddock added.

Colt is one of 11 technology leaders that are members of the Uptime Institute Coalition where industry criteria for operational excellence is scrutinised to help achieve lower carbon emissions and to reduce downtime. Members include enterprise owned, outsourced operations and 3rd party or multi-tenant industry organisations.

Mr Kudritzki said, "Colt’s participation in the coalition went above and beyond our expectations. Not only helping clarify those behaviours that need to exist in a data centre, independent of the infrastructure, but opening up access to staff and facilities for hands-on validation."
