COLT named Best Regional Operator 2009 at World Communication Awards

COLT, a leading European provider of business communications, was named Best Regional Operator 2009 at the World Communications Awards (WCA) in London last night. The award recognises COLT’s success over the last year in being known as one of the most trusted providers of converged data, voice and managed services to European businesses. The company was also a finalist in the Best Managed Service and the Green Award categories.

COLT beat off competition from regional operators around the world to win the Best Regional Operator prize, which recognises the service provider that has strong service portfolio, well matched to the needs of its local customer base. The WCA judges said, "COLT is an excellent example of a leading regional operator. COLT’s local exchange unbundling programme is the exemplar for any altnet that takes itself seriously and wants to break out of the wholesale-core network model to become a real regional service provider."

"It is a great honour to be recognised as the best regional operator in today’s highly competitive industry," said Rakesh Bhasin, Chief Executive Officer, COLT. "COLT wants to be the company that European businesses trust with their mission-critical communications and managed IT services and we are uniquely positioned to provide end-to-end, integrated computing, network and enterprise cloud solutions to customers by combining our extensive, market-leading European network and data centre footprint."

COLT underpins the operations of around 35,000 business customers ranging from SMEs to large blue-chip organisations and every major European fixed-line and mobile carrier. COLT specialises in delivering high quality business communication, networked IT and hosted managed services solutions that are tailored to the demands of organisations and their sector by combining the company’s 25,000km of network and 19 data centres across Europe. This scale, coupled with ownership of the assets, means COLT can provide end-to-end, integrated computing and network solutions to customers, simplifying their processes and ensuring the security, availability and continuity of their IT processes.

Now in its 11th year, the World Communication Awards is the most influential global awards scheme in the industry. It recognises the companies and individuals responsible for the innovations and achievements that are helping to build tomorrow’s industry. The independent judging panel consists of industry commentators and professionals.
