Growing our pan-European network
Driven by the growing role of cloud and different data applications in their day-to-day operations, we’re seeing an increasing need for high bandwidth connectivity from our customers, Did you know that global IP traffic is set exceed 1 zettabyte by 2016? For comparison’s sake, all content on the World Wide Web is estimated to have reached 4 zettabytes last year. To cope with this surge in bandwidth demand in our increasingly digital professional and personal lives, a resilient, high-capacity network is now mission-critical to businesses. Yet, our recent Tech Deficit research found that 8 in 10 European companies admit that their current network infrastructure won’t meet their needs in two years’ time.
Our goal is to help our customers future-proof their infrastructure by bringing them world-class connectivity to support their business critical applications. That is why we’re investing in growing and strengthening our network across key European business centres.
Today we’re unveiling a new high bandwidth route from Dublin to London via Manchester, connecting multinational companies based in the Irish capital to over 195 European cities, as part of our network expansion strategy.
The new 394 km-long fibre route also connects Colt’s customers to all major business parks in Dublin, 20 data centres in and around the city, and provides fibre access to over 250 buildings. It brings businesses up to 4.2Tbps network capacity – that’s equivalent to 280 15Gb HD films every second.
The new route follows the launch of our low latency network from Dublin to London via Birmingham in 2012, completing a ring that links the two capital cities with maximum resiliency.
In Europe we want to be the first choice for SME businesses, because of our unparalleled pan-European reach and the superior capabilities of our network that will propel our customers forward in the digital economy.
The new Dublin to London via Manchester route is just the start. We’ll soon introduce further new routes in the Iberian Peninsula, Northern Europe and the Netherlands.
