Cloud computing becomes more mainstream
The variety of SMEs using cloud computing is set to diversify further in 2013, smartdatacollective.com reports.
The past 12 months have seen not only an increase in the number of businesses looking to cloud solutions, but also in the variety of firms making the switch. Whereas it was once only the mainstay of technologically-minded businesses, cloud computing is now firmly hitting the mainstream.
One of the groups adopting cloud-based solutions fastest are those in the supply chain. Gartner Research VP Dwight Klappich, explained how cloud services are becoming more central to the running of business operations for those in the supply chain.
Much of this is due to the increased trust such managers have in the cloud. Klappich sys concerns over issues such as security or downtime are becoming less pronounced as decision makers begin to see the benefits such systems could offer, as well as the consistent service.
“Two or three years ago when we talked to shippers about software, the cloud was just one option,” Klappich told onlinetech.com. “In many cases, cloud has now become a preference for companies.”
