Colt award win demonstrates innovation in data centre design & build

Six weeks after the shortlist was announced, Colt won the 2014 Datacentre Solutions Awards in the Datacentre Design & Build category. At Colt, we always strive to deliver cutting-edge services that exceed industry standards and meet customer demands. So we’re delighted that we have been recognised for our agile and innovative approach to data centre build and design. We beat off six competitive entries along the way, so what was it that made us stand out from the crowd? Focusing on our Netherlands 3 data centre, our peers voted in support of our flexible approach to the data centre build. In case you’re not familiar with Netherlands 3, in 2012 we transformed a 39,000m2 greenfield site into a working data centre in just eight months. The whole carrier neutral data centre was built to accommodate change, with flexibility incorporated from day one. First we developed the site, warehouse, power, network, office and security systems to meet the agreed final capacity requirements. Then we developed IT space in phases as customer demand required. This enabled us to quickly increase or decrease capacity in line with business requirements. Currently at Colt, we manage over 32,000m2 of data centre space and offer colocation services in all of our European data centres. With new technologies such as cloud, SaaS and high density servers businesses need to plan for increasing capacity. Our unique approach provides customers with the flexibility to scale as needed, eliminating uncertainty around capacity planning. As businesses continue to focus on their core competencies, many are moving away from traditional data centre strategies and towards a colocated approach that enables businesses to select and configure data centres to deliver needed data centre services in the shortest possible time. At Colt, we’ll continue to demonstrate innovation and flexibility both in data centre build and colocation. Whether businesses are after a whole data centre, few racks or an entire suite, we have a solution to meet their needs.
