Colt Wins MEF Carrier Ethernet Awards for the Ninth Year

London, 21 November 2013

Colt Technology Services, the leading information delivery platform, has been recognised as an industry leader in Ethernet services by winning three categories in the prestigious Metro Ethernet Forum’s (MEF) annual Carrier Ethernet Awards 2013. This is the ninth consecutive year that Colt has won such an award which is a huge achievement in this highly competitive marketplace.Colt has won awards in the following three categories:Best Carrier Ethernet Business Application – in a Specific Vertical Market
This award recognises partnerships between Service Providers and their clients in the delivery of Carrier Ethernet services for application verticals.

Best Wholesale Ethernet service:
This is awarded to the Service Provider with the most robust wholesale service offering extending the reach of Ethernet services, including Mobile Backhaul and Business Ethernet Services.

Service Provider of the Year, EMEA, 2013
The Regional Service Provider of the Year award is presented to the provider that is headquartered in and offering Ethernet services primarily within EMEA and has the highest cumulative score across the following categories – innovative Business Application(s) of Ethernet services, Wholesale Ethernet Services and Marketing.

“Colt Technology Services can be proud of their accomplishments in such a dynamic and competitive Ethernet services market,” said Nan Chen, President of the MEF. “The EMEA region now boasts more than 200 providers of Ethernet business and wholesale services, including a growing number who are transitioning to next-generation CE 2.0 services and technologies.”

A number of enhancements to Colt’s Ethernet capabilities led to MEF success. 2013 has seen the company launch 40 & 100Gbps Point to Point services with Colt being one of the first to market with these high bandwidth offerings. The company also expanded its Ethernet footprint with the addition of new City PoPs (Points of Presence), new Data Centre connectivity and Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM) roll-out.

Additionally, Colt has enriched the ‘service wrap’ for its Ethernet services through the full implementation of ‘e-bonding’ with Operator customers using standard application protocol interfaces (APIs). This provides Colt customers with fully automated interfaces for fault ticketing and service requests, connectivity checking and pricing. More than 15 of Colt’s Operator customers are now using these services.

Malcolm Edwards, Product Manager for Ethernet Services, Colt Technology commented: “We are very proud to be recognised by the MEF for our excellence and leadership in developing and delivering Ethernet services. It is very rewarding to see the market appetite for our Ethernet services across Europe continue to grow and we look forward to further innovating the portfolio in line with our customers’ needs.”

The judging panel for this year’s awards comprised senior analysts from IDC, Infonetics, Vertical Systems, Gartner, Frost & Sullivan and Ovum.
