Pushing the boundaries of carrier Ethernet

At Colt, we always seek to bring innovative services to our customers. That’s why we’re delighted that our next-generation Carrier Ethernet Multi-Service Platform (MSP) has been recognised for addressing our customers’ business challenges in an innovative way. At last night’s Global Telecoms Business Awards, Colt and Cyan brought home the award in the Fixed Network Infrastructure Innovation category for designing a fully modular, open, vendor agnostic Carrier Ethernet Modular Services Platform. The solution comes with an SDN-enabled controller that enables fast service provisioning and customer facing self-service functions through a portal.Colt Modular MSP is already available in 11 European cities – London, Frankfurt, Berlin, Dusseldorf, Hamburg, Munich, Paris, Barcelona, Madrid, Amsterdam and Brussels – with plans for rollout in all Colt cities in 2014. Businesses count on us to deliver critical managed IT services, cloud services and communication solutions with a superior customer experience. Automating our network infrastructure and deploying best-in-class technology play an essential part in delivering that experience. With the Modular Multi-Service Platform, we’re able to provision new services for our customers faster and with a reduced cost of delivery. Colt Modular MSP pushes the boundaries of Ethernet and IP services. Its design reduces the number of different types of equipment our customers need by integrating Ethernet and IP service delivery on a common access and core network infrastructure. That’s just the start, however.Software Defined Networking (SDN) is at the heart of the Modular MSP and an enabler for many of the innovations we’re working on at the moment. It is set to transform the way operators like Colt are able to serve their customers by boosting efficiency in the back office and by supporting the roll-out of new innovative services. SDN will bring about a shift in the telecoms market. Our customers will be able to access to new services and resources at the click of the mouse, on-demand and in near real time, not unlike both businesses and consumers use cloud services today. We worked closely with Cyan on the development of Colt Modular MSP. This approach opens the door to automation and scaling of our network resources. It is set to pave the way for innovations in SDN and network virtualisation based applications and services, which will help our customers to capitalise on the opportunities offered by the data-driven world more quickly and effectively.
