The growth of cloud connectivity via public Internet has shown no sign of abating, driven by continued growth in adoption of SaaS and SD WAN deployment on enterprise networks. As enterprises are now moving their applications to the cloud over Internet links, those relying on public Internet can experience challenges with the speed and reliability of their connectivity to the cloud, which can negatively impact their day-to-day operations and business performance.

The launch of Microsoft Azure Peering Service as part of Colt IP Access addresses many of the typical challenges experienced by users connecting to the cloud over public Internet. It provides customers with the benefits of Colt’s direct peering with Microsoft to reach services such as Office 365 and Azure and is one of the first services of its kind to launch at scale in Europe.

With Colt Business Internet Access supporting the Azure Peering Service, enterprises can combine the simplicity and flexibility of Internet access to the cloud with the quality of experience that usually only dedicated private connections can provide. This valuable combination is based on a precisely designed interconnect infrastructure between Colt and Azure, with distributed direct peering points added to the existing public peering interconnects.

Colt customers are offered the option to request premium performances for all their traffic to and from Microsoft’s data centres, where their cloud services run. Traffic routing is optimised by always selecting the shortest network path to Microsoft network edge. The end result of optimised routing is a very low and predictable latency, whilst the redundancy offered by multiple direct interconnects on top of the resiliency of the Colt network makes cloud access extremely reliable. These customer benefits are all formally guaranteed by Colt’s Premium SLA.

The tangible impact on user experience provided by this solution is evident in highly available and more responsive applications, which translates to enhanced business continuity and increased productivity.

As this capability can be quickly delivered over existing Colt Internet Services – no physical changes at customers’ premises are required – it can immediately be made available to all Colt IP Access customers and should be considered for any company seeking the best experience of Office 365 or Azure-based cloud services over Internet.
