Colt has further strengthened its relationship with interactive learning initiative Night Zookeeper, with Colt’s UK employees now mentoring children and coaching them on their writing styles.

Night Zookeeper is a social enterprise based in London, which looks to improve children’s literacy skills through the use of a world-leading learning platform that emphasises creativity and self-expression, all the while teaching children the core English skills from the National Curriculum.

Last year it was announced that Colt was supporting the organisation by sponsoring annual licenses for the Night Zookeeper platform, so that classrooms across the UK – some of whom may not have been able to have the opportunity to use this type of technology previously, can now reap the rewards of this fantastic asset. Since the partnership was announced more than one million words have been reviewed across Colt sponsored schools.

Due to this close partnership, the team at Night Zookeeper reached out to Colt to see if there would be a willing number of Colties who would be able to take some time out of their busy schedules to leave some positive and constructive feedback on the pieces of writing the children have been producing.

Unsurprisingly, there was an influx of Colties ready to offer their time up, and in the first week of launching, more than 30 people had signed up to be a Night Zookeeper writing mentor. This is a brilliant start and here’s to hoping that these numbers continue as time goes on. I’ve personally signed up to be a writing mentor and it’s fun to see the ideas that children express through their writing and know that by taking 10 minutes 1-2 times a week, that I am brightening a child’s day when they receive my feedback.

As part of Colt’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy, staff members are given two days a year to use on certain projects and this is one in which they can use their time on. For Colt, it’s important for us to foster a culture of giving back and not just financially, but by also giving time to back to the community.

For Colt, Night Zookeeper is an organisation that we’re proud to support, due to the way in which it utilises technology to not only help children learn in a new and interesting way, but also allow for the wider community to encourage that learning.

We’re excited to see where the partnership goes and how it continues to evolve in the future.
