Colt wins Global Telecoms Business Award

Last week Colt has just won Global Telecoms Business award in the ”Fixed Network Infrastructure Innovation of the Year” category together with our Software Defined Networking (SDN) partner Cyan. Our next-generation Modular Multi-Service Platform (M-MSP) was recognised for addressing our customers’ business challenges in an innovative way.

At Colt, we always seek to bring innovative services to our customers – both corporate and operator customers. That’s why we’re delighted that our next-generation Carrier Ethernet Multi-Service Platform (MSP) has been awarded by Global Telecoms Business in the Fixed Network Infrastructure Innovation category for designing a fully modular, open, vendor agnostic Carrier Ethernet Modular Services Platform. The solution comes with an SDN-enabled controller that enables fast service provisioning and customer facing self-service functions through a portal.

Colt Modular MSP is already available in 11 European cities – London, Frankfurt, Dusseldorf, Hamburg, Berlin, Munich, Paris, Barcelona, Madrid, Amsterdam and Brussels – with plans for rollout in all cities with Colt Metropolitan Area Networks in 2014. In those 11 cities Colt’s network already today is highly scalable, enabled to automate, provision, and manage its Ethernet transport and Carrier Ethernet services over a multi-vendor and multi-technology infrastructure.

“Operating two separate networks for services which are becoming more similar over time is obviously more complex, and therefore more difficult to operate,” Mirko Voltolini, Director Network Design and Architecture at Colt’s Line of Business Network Services unit, says. “We therefore developed a novel design, a solution that is suitable for us and our customers’ needs instead of deploying what’s available off the shelf”.
Overall automating the network infrastructure and deploying best-in-class technology play an essential part for Colt in delivering best-in-class customer experience. With the Modular Multi-Service Platform we’re simply able to provision new services for our customers faster.

Furthermore Colt’s Modular MSP pushes the boundaries of Ethernet and IP services, and its design significantly reduces the number of different types of equipment needed for integrating Ethernet and IP service delivery on a common access and core network infrastructure.

At the heart of the Modular MSP is the concept of Software Defined Networking (SDN) as an enabler for many of the innovations Colt are working on at the moment. It is set to transform the way Colt and all other operators are able to serve their customers by boosting efficiency in the back office and by supporting the roll-out of new innovative services.
