From the cloud to the red carpet; Colt extends relationship with the Berlinale

The Berlin International Film Festival is using Colt’s Dedicated Cloud Access (DCA) solution for the first time in 2020

Frankfurt, Germany, 18 February 2020 – Colt Technology Services has today announced that the Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) is using its Dedicated Cloud Access (DCA) offering for the first time in 2020.

Through the use of Colt’s DCA solution, the film festival’s management applications will now be housed in the cloud, providing greater reliability, less latency and higher data security compared to public Internet connections.

Colt DCA is powered by the Colt IQ Network, which is comprised of over 29,000 on net buildings and more than 900 data centres globally, one of which is the Frankfurt data centre that is supporting Berlinale.

“For a festival like the Berlinale, a stable, fail-safe network infrastructure is of the utmost importance. By migrating our central control application into the cloud and accessing it via Colt’s DCA solution, we are making our management processes even more efficient. This frees up our team so they can take care of other aspects of the festival,” said Ove Sander, Berlinale’s Technical Head of Digital Cinema.

“More and more organisations are in the process of migrating their on-premise operations to the cloud,” said Ruth Welter, Colt’s Country Manager, Germany. “Not only are the services that are provided by cloud providers crucial for the efficient use of these IT operations, but fast and secure access to the cloud via a high-performance network infrastructure is vital. With Colt’s DCA solution, customers always have a world-class cloud experience thanks to dedicated agile and reliable connectivity.”

Since 2009, Colt has been a Digital Cinema Partner of the Berlinale, providing high bandwidth network services of up to 10 Gbit/s and internet access to enable high-quality data transmission. Colt’s owned fibre network enables the direct distribution of film data from the data centre to all 19 festival venues, which is made up of 50 film studios. For the approximately 2,500 screenings at the festival and the European Film Market, a data volume of more than one petabyte is transmitted over the network.

Germany is an important region for Colt, with the organisation further expanding in Berlin. The expansion of the Colt IQ Network in Berlin will see more than 500 office buildings and a 100km of additional fibre being put into the ground in Berlin by mid-2020. The German capital is also a vital hub for connections to Eastern Europe.

Colt is focused on powering enterprises digital transformations and one way in which it does this is by supporting organisations migrations to the cloud, by enabling connections to all the major cloud service providers including; Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud and IBM Cloud with its DCA solution. Colt can also connect customers with other cloud providers, as is the case with Berlinale.
