I was brought up in a very conservative family in a strict atmosphere. Being the only girl in the house, my family was extremely protective of me. Growing up in this environment made me want to prove to the world that I am no less than a son. I consciously pushed myself to do everything in such a way that I could become strong at every step. And here I am, the only girl in my family in a full time corporate job. This has made my family proud of me and now they always encourage me to soar to new heights.
A couple of years ago, I was inspired by a few powerlifters in my gym who encouraged me. As it wasn’t a sport popular with women, it took real courage and zeal to get into it and become better with practice. This April, I went into the National Championships and I won bronze – my best was a 100kg deadlift. It’s a scientific fact that sport can be a huge stress reliever and that’s part of the appeal for me. I always look to inspire young girls to fulfil their ambitions and help them on their journey. I am one of the key CSR leads for Colt India and I make it my mission to support children with whatever they need to go to school, whether that’s stationary or a uniform. Knowing that I am helping in this way is one of the most important parts of my life.
