I majored in Japanese at college and continued to study it after I graduated. I had two teachers who were both quite elderly, one was 76 and one was 85. It really impressed me that they had dedicated their lives to living in China and teaching us about Japanese language and culture, they brought us so many books and goodies from Japan. There’s a history between our two countries, but they completely changed my perception so I decided to go and experience it for myself.
When I first got there, I continued my Japanese studies as I didn’t really know what I wanted to do yet. A woman I was studying with gave me some great advice – she said not to rush, get to know yourself first and you’ll figure out what it is you want to do in life. And if you don’t know what you want to do, just do your best at whatever you’re doing now. I got an interview at Colt and my interviewer was an incredible woman called Mayumi. The first time I met her she gave me exactly the same advice as my classmate. That’s how I knew to join Colt.
