Who They Are
Tencent Cloud is China’s leading public cloud service provider (CSP). It is a secure, reliable and high‑performance CSP that integrates Tencent’s infrastructure capabilities with the strength of its large user platform and ecosystem. Tencent Cloud offers a wide range of services, including cloud computing, data processing and cloud operations, to support and empower businesses.
After establishing a strong presence in China, Tencent Cloud expanded rapidly across Japan, the Asia‑Pacific region, the Americas and Europe. As a cloud service provider, maintaining secure and reliable network connectivity is essential to delivering high‑performance cloud services. For this reason, Tencent Cloud sought a global network partner that could provide scalable, multi‑path connectivity with strong stability and security.
Why Colt
Tencent Cloud selected Colt because its global capabilities aligned with Tencent’s international strategy and technical requirements. The company needed a secure and diverse network that could support global expansion.
Colt’s extensive worldwide footprint provides Tencent Cloud with multiple diversity and protection options, ensuring both reliability and security for its cloud infrastructure. Tencent Cloud was particularly impressed with Colt’s connected metro network, which spans more than 212 cities and 32 countries across Europe, Asia and North America, delivering seamless optical connectivity.
In Japan, Tencent Cloud chose Colt Wave due to Colt’s strong local presence. Colt connects to more than 70 data centres and over 2,000 commercial buildings in Japan using its own fibre network, providing diverse and redundant routing options.
“Colt has a well‑developed infrastructure with great coverage. We are delighted with their services and will definitely recommend Colt to others.” — Mr. Zhao
The Solution
Colt Wave provides inter–data centre connectivity with aggressive delivery times for services up to 100Gbps. This service enables organisations to take advantage of market opportunities and meet growing bandwidth demands driven by the Internet, rich application environments and cloud computing.
Future plans
Tencent Cloud has been delivering cloud services in Japan since 2019 and plans to continue expanding globally. The company aims to extend coverage to additional cities and triple its current sales volume. Mr. Zhao also noted that Tencent is likely to partner with a Japanese carmaker in 2020 to help Japanese firms using cloud computing expand into the Chinese market.
