Mitsubishi Research Institute DCS

Enabling secure, scalable multi‑cloud data management

Who they are

After separating from Mitsubishi Bank (now MUFG Bank) in 1970, Mitsubishi Research Institute DCS Co., Ltd. (MRI DCS) leveraged its deep expertise in banking, credit card services, and other financial sectors to expand into a consultancy offering end‑to‑end IT solutions, including outsourcing and BPO, primarily from the Chiba Information Centre. The firm joined the MRI Group in 2004, and its mission is to help customers grow through ICT while evolving alongside them. MRI DCS supports its clients’ corporate value by delivering full value‑chain solutions.

Dibertas is a multi‑cloud storage service developed by MRI DCS that enables centralised management of data across multiple public clouds and on‑premises environments. By allowing inter‑cloud data sharing, Dibertas provides customers with a storage platform that delivers both freedom and security.

Ahead of launching Dibertas, MRI DCS evaluated several cloud connectivity options.

“The concept behind Dibertas is to securely safeguard our clients’ data by maintaining and monitoring the storage at our data centre. We needed a network capable of connecting our environment with public clouds in a way that is both secure and high in quality.” Our number‑one priority in launching Dibertas was to build a stable, high‑speed environment for customers who want a stress‑free way to centrally manage their data across multiple public clouds.”

“I am very pleased that Colt’s broadband, low‑latency cloud connectivity has enabled us to establish a secure, high‑quality closed‑network connection. We look forward to Colt’s continued support as we stabilise and expand the service to meet user needs.”

Why Colt

When choosing a network to support cloud connectivity, MRI DCS selected a dedicated line to ensure the required level of security and connection quality. “Because Dibertas stores data and cloud servers in separate locations, a reliable dedicated line was essential. The first challenge we faced when reviewing options was cost,” recalls Mr. Togo.

Colt’s point‑to‑multipoint configuration, using the Colt Ethernet Hub as the central point to connect to multiple clouds, reduced costs compared with installing individual lines for each public cloud. On top of this, Colt’s ring‑configured network provided reliability and stability without the need for carrier redundancy. “We feel we received extremely good value for money,” Mr. Togo adds.

Because Dibertas serves a large user base, high performance and ample bandwidth were also critical.

“Dibertas’s value lies in enabling users to freely and flexibly manage data across multiple clouds. To support this, low latency was essential. Colt’s cloud connectivity provides direct, low‑latency, closed‑network links between the public clouds and our data centre, keeping latency to a minimum,” says Mr. Sato.

Colt also supported network design and build inside the public cloud environments, which gave additional confidence. “The deciding factor was Colt’s balance of quality and cost performance,” says Mr. Ando.

Future Plans

Demand is growing not just for storage, but also for cloud‑based big data analytics and other cloud‑native applications. “We increasingly see clients using different cloud services depending on the application, with Dibertas acting as the central management layer. To support this, we plan to expand compatibility beyond AWS and Microsoft Azure,” says Mr. Gouda.

MRI DCS also plans to expand Dibertas across western Japan, enabling compatibility between Tokyo and Osaka.

“We expect Dibertas’s user base to continue growing. We hope Colt will keep delivering high‑quality network services to support our expansion and ensure reliable delivery for our clients.”
