How PTC and a Hawaiian legend have set the tone for 2020

January is often a busy month, as plans for the new year kick into action and business gets back to full speed after the festive break.

Here at Colt, 2020 certainly started with a bang. A couple of weeks ago, the team and I attended one of the industry’s biggest events: The Pacific Telecommunications Council’s (PTC) renowned annual conference in Honolulu, Hawaii.

With an impressive attendance of 7900 people that joined from all over the globe, the week was a great opportunity to connect with others, shine a spotlight on the exciting work happening in our industry and set the tone for the coming year.

Honolulu was a beautiful setting, but the tranquil surroundings were a stark contrast to the busy Colt schedule! Alongside dozens of meetings and conferences, a highlight of the event was the Colt happy hour networking evening – thank you to everyone that came along and made it one of the most successful to date.

Amidst the busyness of the conference, I managed to learn about a local hero and champion surfer. Eddie Aikou who rode 30-foot waves to perfection on the very beach that PTC overlooked, but he’s more legendary for the hundreds of lives he saved as a lifeguard. Eddie never hesitated to put the safety of others over his own, and no one ever died under his watch.

Eddie’s fearlessness and dedication to guarding lives made me think of how can we bring that same level of focus and commitment to what we do every day. Colt’s vision is to become the most customer-oriented company in the industry, and we strive to deliver the best solutions and customer experience possible. We push to bring to our work the determination and boldness required to go beyond the status quo, as we work harder and smarter for our customers across the globe.

Our latest NPS success is an encouraging indicator that we’re moving in the right direction, but we’re determined to continue to push that score higher.

Back in the office after PTC, I’m excited to put our plans into action. The week gave a taste for where the industry will be heading over the next 11 months, and it was great to discuss opportunities with our partners regarding what we can achieve together in 2020. Many of these collaborations will help Colt continue as a leading player in driving innovation – for the benefit of the industry and our customers.

This year’s going to be even busier than the last, but I confident we have the determination and boldness to make it count – Mahalo Nui Eddie for the inspiration and drive.
