I started dancing as soon as I could walk and as a child my summer vacations were spent at dance academies. When I dance it completely changes my mood. My favourite styles are freestyle and traditional Punjabi dancing because you can really dance from the heart. I never went professional but even today, anywhere you find music you will find me dancing – especially at Colt parties.

People might be surprised to see me as the one to start the party as previously I’ve been given the feedback that I can come across as quite serious at work. I was surprised by the feedback because although I do take my job seriously, I don’t see myself as a serious person. I reflected on the feedback and it really brought it home to me that it’s important to get to know someone before forming an opinion.

Over time I’ve learnt a lot about myself and others. Working in HR, every day involves talking to lots of different people and it’s a part of my role that I love. I try to see things from another perspective and I never give up if I believe something.

A few years ago I tore a ligament in my knee. I had to go through a major operation which means I can’t go to dance lessons. I may not be able to dance as regularly as I used to, but I don’t let it stop me from doing what I love. It’s important to never give up if you have something you want to do whatever that may be in life.
