“In the field of online gaming, response time is one of the most critical factors to ensuring customer satisfaction. With Colt’s low latency and stable network, we are able to ensure excellent customer experience.” - Megumu Meguro, Assistant Manager of Service Infrastructure Team, CAPCOM
As a pioneer in the gaming industry, CAPCOM has created many popular titles and continues to develop smash hits both within Japan and globally. The company’s network connects their front‑end systems with their in‑house‑developed game servers and back‑end services. However, when the data centre hosting the game server was relocated, it became necessary to search for a new network that could reliably connect all three components.
Initially, CAPCOM used another carrier’s VPN service, but they were concerned that latency issues could arise during periods of bandwidth shortage. Users rely on the back‑end services for account authentication, billing, and logging into and out of the game server. Because users access these services through many different types of devices, the time required for inter‑server cooperation directly affects waiting times. Ensuring high customer satisfaction therefore requires regular reviews of the network environment.
“In online gaming, there is a close relationship between system processing time and user experience. We constantly consider how to shorten processing time and reduce the time required for system responses to travel across our network. For CAPCOM, introducing a stable network with lower latency was essential,” recalls Mr Meguro.
The Solution
To ensure a stable connection between their data centre and office, CAPCOM introduced Colt’s high‑bandwidth leased line service, Colt Wave. Their previous carrier’s VPN offered only 100Mbps of bandwidth, which proved insufficient. With Colt Wave, they increased their bandwidth to 10Gbps.

“During peak times, concurrent connections to the game server may exceed 100,000 due to rapid increases in access after service releases or maintenance. The Colt IQ Network ensures sufficient bandwidth during these peaks, allowing us to provide a stable service without users experiencing delays. We have been able to operate with confidence and without issues since introducing Colt Wave,” Mr Meguro explains with satisfaction.
Furthermore, as more titles and content are stored on the game server, additional account information is required by the back‑end services.
“Because our back‑end services support multiple titles, their role as a platform for online service provision will only grow. Ensuring network stability is indispensable for delivering an excellent user experience,” Mr Meguro emphasizes.
Since the back‑end services contain users’ personal information, they also require even stronger security than the game servers.
“Because Colt Wave allows sites to be connected in a completely closed environment, we were confident that Colt’s solution offered the level of security we needed,” he adds.
Future plans
CAPCOM plans to further strengthen its IT infrastructure to expand its online services. Looking ahead, the company intends to develop online offerings for overseas users, especially in North America. Expansion will require not only managing increased user numbers but also complying with local regulations in each market, including the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
“We will continue to expand content for future online use, whether domestically or overseas. To achieve this, we would like Colt to support the delivery of various services and games with their low‑latency, stable network,” says Mr Meguro.
