Colt’s Francesca Serravalle selected for UK 5G Security Sub-Group

As 5G continues to rollout across the UK, the security and resilience of the technology underpinning this next-generation mobile network will be critical to unlocking the value of 5G.

The UK Government is committed to boosting the digital economy and recognises fibre and 5G as the digital infrastructure of the future.

5G will bring the opportunity for innovation across industries, service providers and society, as well as a new generation of security challenges. As the UK moves towards a digital economy and essential services depend on 5G connectivity, security incidents in 5G networks and systems will have critical implications.

Security, as well as next-generation technologies, are strategic focuses for Colt. We understand that security is fundamental to the digital ecosystem and our customers’ digital transformations, and we want to contribute to building trust in the digital economy of today and the future. As Emerging Technology Director at Colt, I am very pleased to share that I have been appointed to the Security Sub-Group of the UK 5G Testbed & Trials Working Group.

Building on the learning of phase one of the 5G Testbeds and Trials Programme launched in 2018, this sub group draws leaders from across government, industry and academia to develop 5G security best practice and define a holistic framework to secure 5G networks and services.

It is a welcomed initiative by the UK Government and highlights the importance of adopting key security design principles, such as end-to-end security solutions. A platform for collaboration, knowledge and innovation, the group will underpin an ecosystem that encompasses all aspects of 5G security.

Membership of the Security Sub-Group is an invaluable opportunity for Colt to learn from the expertise of other specialists in 5G, security, research and regulation. As 5G and other emerging technologies take up a prominent role in the digital economy, Colt will be able to continue to deliver resilient and secure services to our customers globally, supporting their digital transformations and readying them for the future.

Equally, I am excited to contribute my own knowledge and experience. 5G underpins the Government’s vision of the UK digital economy, and this Security Sub-Group will ensure the security of those 5G networks and services across the UK.
