Colt wins first Gartner® Eye on Innovation Award for CSPs, EMEA

We are delighted to announce that Colt has won the 2022 Gartner Eye on Innovation Award for Communication Service Providers (CSPs) in the EMEA region. This is the first time that Gartner has presented this award for the CSPs category.
This global award series recognizes communications service providers (CSPs) for their innovative use of technology to drive best-in-class initiatives. All submissions are assessed by Gartner, and finalists are selected via benchmarking against world-class performance standards. Colt won the award for the Colt IQ Network Core Backbone Transformation innovation project, which we presented live during the Gartner online award ceremony. The award winners were chosen by industry peers.
Colt’s IQ Network Core Backbone Transformation project focused on the backbone network, addressing critical challenges like ultra-high-capacity demand from customers, the dynamic and unpredictable nature of the demand requiring operational flexibility, and the high emission and carbon footprint of old technologies while managing the cost pressures and supply chain risks.
The project has resulted in carbon emission reductions of over 74 tonnes per year with the next phase looking to increase that to over 250 tonnes. New technologies have also enabled up to a 97% reduction in power, a 90% reduction in needed space per 100g, reducing packet core capex by up to 65%, while doubling usable capacity per fibre pair, quadrupling the optical capacity per rack space and increasing packet core capacity by 2.4 times.
According to Gartner, there are no predefined submission categories for the Eye on Innovation. Innovation areas include:
- Innovative business and operating models that allow CSPs to develop new strategic value creation or profit models
- Innovative service or product offerings that improve customer experience and support the digital strategy of CSPs
- Innovative initiatives of CSPs to increase operational efficiencies or save costs
- Innovative adoption of technologies that improve operations of communications service providers
