Product update: Global MPLS services

HomeBlogsProduct update: Global MPLS services

Last quarter we talked about Colt’s backbone network expansion, focussing on the Ethernet area. And we have let you know that we deployed E-NNI number 500 with our network partners increasing our reach in order to satisfy or customers’ needs.

Colt are focussing on increasing the network coverage in other areas as well. This applies to the MPLS based virtual private networks (VPNs), which are not only part of Colt’s corporate customers offering but a Wholesale service too.

Our Operator customers are able to connect their MPLS network to Colt via a Wholesale MPLS-NNI (network-to-network interconnect). This allows customers to benefit from Colt’s global (!) coverage in the MPLS business, no matter if they require single IP-VPN access lines or request Colt to deliver a larger number of sites for their respective end customer’s VPN.
How that? Since “good old ATM days” Colt have operated VPN network services in our home market, i.e. initially in 13 Western European countries. This strong foundation has not changed with the evolution from ATM to IP/MPLS: Colt operate a multi-meshed MPLS network connecting fibre on-net, DSL, Ethernet-First-Mile and partner covered sites integrating those underlying technologies into homogenous customers’ Virtual Private Networks. Our non-European operator customers or those with network in their respective national home markets only do benefit a lot from our capabilities already today.

But we think that this is not yet good enough – hence continue to expand our capabilities within our home markets with networks of our partners that run similar technologies in complementary geographies. We connecte the Colt MPLS network to our partners’ networks, enlarging our reach for the benefit of our  sales channels in designing homogenous and competitive networks for their end customers.

Now this gives our Operator customers a unique opportunity as well: Whilst our Wholesale customers can build their end customers’ networks in their respective home markets themselves, they may now chose Colt for the international sites acknowledging our high network density for services in Western Europe.

For Australia and Eastern Asia, Eastern Europe, North America and even South America and Africa we cooperate with dedicated network partners in their specific core region. Another partner for Asia are about to be introduced soon – providing an even better coverage compared to what we have already.

That means that Colt as a global partner can supply services in nearly all continents and countries worldwide – based on the foundation of our strong partnerships. So we  take away the burden of managing too many partners from our Wholesale customers and make them benefit from our economies of scale.

Blue is Colt’s core market and network,
Red are the partner covered geographies,
Dark grey long-lined coverage.
