Celebrations of Togetherness

Published by Colt Technology Services on November 25, 2019

The months of October and November see many nations celebrating major holidays and festivals.

In India, there is the major festival of Diwali, celebrating the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance. There are also nine nations that celebrate the holiday of Thanksgiving. While the United States is the most well-known of these; Canada, Germany, Japan, China, Liberia, Grenada, South Korea and Norfolk Island also celebrate the coming of the new harvest and the year that has passed.

Both of these celebrations and holidays may have their roots steeped in belief or tradition, but in many ways, they are simply a celebration of togetherness.

While recently in India, I was privileged to be able to attend Colt’s Family Day celebrations in Gurgaon and Bangalore, where many employees bring along their extended family members as a way of sharing a little of their working life with the ones that mean the most to them. I met with Children, Parents, Parents-in-Law, Aunts, Uncles, siblings and Grandparents of our employees, where the pride at being included in such an event was evident for everyone. It felt like the quintessential definition of coming together and giving thanks.

For many of us, a commemoration of togetherness and being grateful may not be as formal in our culture, or may be labelled in some other way. Still, there is no reason that we shouldn’t all take the time to recognise and celebrate.

Whether that be a colleague, friend, family member or even yourself – this time is always an important one to take stock and think about all that you have achieved and are thankful for over the past year, but equally as important, what are you hoping for the year ahead?

I hope these months bring joy to all those celebrating, but I also hope they bring clarity for all you hope to achieve as we head towards a new decade.
