I started playing the piano when I was about eight years old. I stopped at fourteen because in high school, I didn’t have time to practise. I missed it. When you find a piece of music, at first you don’t know how to play it, so you build up to it. You do your exercises and you practise until eventually, you can play it wonderfully. You can go from 0 to 100 – that’s exciting for me.

It can be the same with your work. My major was Japanese, so I came out of university knowing nothing about telecoms networks or IT services. But I’ve learned from those around me and I’ve challenged myself and I feel proud of how far I’ve come. I’m confident in my job which has made me more confident in my personal life. Last year, there was a big event here at Colt Dalian and I played the piano for the first time in years. I was nervous, so I rehearsed for a long time in order to get the piece right. When I played, I heard one of my colleagues say ‘wow’ – I knew I’d got to 100.
